March 19th, 2009: The 6th Anniversary of the Iraq Occupation

 In Uncategorized

This March 19th marks the 6th anniversary of the U.S. occupation of Iraq. On that day Peace Action affiliates in your area will hold tons of events for you to join. There are vigils, protests, commemoration services, and panel discussions in major cities across the U.S.

As the old saying goes, “it’s not over until it’s over.” With President Obama planning to leave 50,000 residual troops and permanent bases in Iraq now is not the time to rest. Instead our resolve to end this illegal occupation must grow stronger.

Last year we lead a coordinated day of action in Washington, DC. Working with peace groups around the country we took over the Capitol with our message of peace and non-violence.

This year we hope local events will have as much success. As our country gets ready to enter our 7th year occupying Iraq we cannot let our new President think we’ve forgotten his promise to get out of Iraq.

Join us for an event or stage one of your own. Don’t let another year pass without taking time to reflect on and lament the immense losses of the past 6 years.
