U.S. weapons sales to dictators?

In Arms Sales and Military Aid, Middle East

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the U.S. selling arms to countries that turn around and use those arms against their own people.

Despite the wakeup call of the Arab Spring, the Pentagon is planning a $53 million arms sale to Bahrain. This sale would arm the very same security forces that have shot at and killed non-violent activists fighting for political freedom.

Can you take a few moments to support the people of Bahrain and their hopes for freedom by getting Congress to block this sale?

Many of you have already taken action and recently the State Department agreed to a delay in the arms transfer. But this delay is only temporary and now is the time increase opposition to the sale at the grassroots.

We at Peace Action West have joined with allies in Congress who are proposing legislation that would block the arms sale. Won’t you add your voice today?

The inspiring events of the Arab Spring invite the U.S. to embark on a new path for foreign policy. This path would place human rights over narrow geopolitical concerns. It would place alliances with the people of the Middle East over cozy relations with repressive regimes.

Speak up for a new foreign policy. Speak up for the Bahraini people.
