You can make a difference in key races next month!

In 2016 Election, Congress, Congress, elections

vote-peaceAs you know, elections are just under a month away with several opportunities to elect pro-peace candidates. You can help now.

Take a look at these pro-peace candidates running for the House of Representatives:

Michael Eggman in CA-10
Rick Nolan in MN-8
Carol Shea-Porter in NH-1

Michael Eggman is in a competitive race to unseat incumbent Rep. Jeff Denham (R-CA-10). Denham is a horrible voter on pro-peace issues, with a 0% voting record with Peace Action in 2015. Eggman believes in the power of diplomacy and wants to avoid sending the U.S. into costly military conflicts around the world. He supported the Iran nuclear agreement and supports working toward the elimination of nuclear weapons stockpiles globally.

Challengers like Eggman need your help. Please help him today.

Obviously, it’s important to support incumbents that share our values and vote our positions. Rick Nolan has consistently scored high on our voting record and has been an outspoken voice for peace. Yet, he faces a significant challenger and a close election.

Carol Shea-Porter served New Hampshire’s 1st district from 2007-2010, and from 2013-2014. In 2006, she ran on a platform in opposition to the Iraq War, and since then has consistently supported diplomatic and humanitarian alternatives to war. In keeping with those pro-peace positions, she voted to keep U.S. troops out of Iraq in 2014 without a new congressional authorization. As a strong nonproliferation advocate, she also voted to cut funding from a redundant and destabilizing nuclear cruise missile, the Long Range Standoff Weapon.

Through our Peace Voter electoral campaign, Peace Action and our affiliates have helped campaigns win by endorsing and fundraising for candidates, contributing to primary elections, briefing and educating candidates and hiring organizers to work in important swing races.

Please contribute to the above peace candidates and to Peace Action’s PAC now. Just chipping in $5 can make a difference. By law, $5,000 is the maximum you can give to our PAC per year. You may consider a recurring gift so that we are always prepared, even for those surprise special elections.

Because of your help, Peace Action PAC has helped elect such peace leaders as Reps. Jim McGovern (D-MA), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Raul Grijalva and dozens of others.

Your support today can make a difference in this crucial election cycle. It’s not just about electing members of Congress that will vote the right way, though that certainly helps. The key is electing leaders on peace issues who will lead a number of lawmakers to vote the right way. We need the leaders who will do the hard, behind the scenes work on issues you and I care about that will make a lasting difference.

Please take a moment now to make a gift so that we can make a difference in key elections.

For a more peaceful Congress,

Paul Kawika Martin
Peace Action PAC Director

P.S.  We have the opportunity to elect pro-peace candidates. We have done the hard work of finding nine candidates who share your pro-peace values and are in competitive races. Please give generously to them and Peace Action’s PAC. After giving, please share this crucial email with your friends, family and colleagues.

P.P.S. Note that your contribution will be evenly divided between nine peace candidates and Peace Action’s PAC unless you choose otherwise. Peace Action has endorsed over 30 peace candidates this election cycle. Right now, nine of these races are competitive and your help can make a big difference.

Dear Friends at Peace Action, I would like to point out that the image you are using on this page and on Twitter to promote VOTE PEACE is an official Green Party US banner. The Green Party’s 2016 platform specifically calls for a 50% reduction in the US military budget, a series of steps leading to the abolition of nuclear weapons, and many other goals that I know you share.

I encourage your supporters to consider Dr. Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, for president. Dr. Stein is on the ballot in 45 states and has earned official write-in status in 3 more — an all-time record for our young political party, We have a real chance of earning 5% of the popular vote, which would qualify us for the first time ever for federal matching funds in the 2020 election. A vote for Stein/Baraka this year is a vote not just for peace, but for a healthy multi-party future.

I hope in the future that Peace Action will consider down-ballot Green Party candidates for endorsement. Since we do not accept any corporate donations, the support of your PAC for our national peace agenda would be deeply appreciated.
